Meta lies at Colombia’s geographical centre. Most of the department’s land is low-lying savannah, forming part of the Llanos Orientales (Eastern Plains), while to the south, part of the department extends into the Amazon rainforest. In the west, the department’s border runs along the eastern cordillera, and Meta’s coffee grows on the eastern slopes of the Andes.
