Putumayo lies in Colombia’s south, sandwiched between Meta and Cauca to the northeast, and Colombia’s border with Ecuador and Peru to the southwest. Most of Putumayo’s land forms part of the Colombian Amazon region, but in the northwest it extends into the eastern cordillera of the Andes. In this region, close to the department’s border with Nariño, a small amount of coffee is grown.
